Happy Friday! This week's Spotlight comes to you from France!
Our interviewee this week is Fabrice Boris. He is working on an application to help Rwandan students find jobs after graduation. We had a chance to chat with him a bit to find out more about what he is doing.
Hey, Fabrice. So, where are you currently based?
Currently I stay in Rennes, a beautiful city in the West of France.
Is that where you grew up?
Actually, I grew up in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda.
Cool. That explains a little about your application's focus. Tell us a little about your background.
After my secondary school in Rwanda in 2006, I went to the University of Bejaia in Algeria, where I got a bachelors degree in Computer Science. After my bachelors degree, I went to The Institute Of Information et Communication Technologies in Rennes (France) to continue my studies, and I got my Masters degree in Software Development. After that, in 2011, I went back home to Rwanda to work as Software Engineer at Otlab ltd, a software development Startup.
In 2012 I came back to France and now I work as a Software Engineer at Capgemini Technology Services in Rennes – France. And I still work for Otlab Ltd as a consultant.
Can you tell us a little about the app that you have running on Jelastic?
Lemino.biz is job portal web app which helps young Rwandan graduates to find jobs.
Lemino has also cv builder application and you can also find on lemino a lot of success stories. The idea of success stories is to encourage Rwandan youth create the own businesses.
Why did you choose Jelastic?
I really like the “Zero Lock-in." Before I knew Jelastic, I have tried other PaaS solutions and most of them I had to do quite a bit of extra configuration and coding to make my applications run. I also really like the Jelastic UI.
Any future plans for your app?
In the future, we want to develop a mobile version of Lemino using Primefaces and continue to add other features.
How would you say that Java has affected you life?
The more I discover Java, the more I like it and the more I want to learn about it: with Java I can develop web apps, RIAs, mobile apps and mobile websites. It's very versatile.
I like watching movies and dancing Salsa, Bachata and Zouk.
What do you like most about your work?
What I really enjoy about my work is transforming an abstract idea into software and seeing that the software I developed is helping someone to solve a daily problem or just making his life simpler for them.
Do you have a favorite website?
I like Vogella and MkYong and Twitter and Facebook. I have also started my own website which will be on jelastic too.
Do you have a philosophy by which you live, something that you rely on when making decisions or use to guide you in tough times?
My philosophy is found in the Holy Bible in the Book of Joshua 1-9: Have not I commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be you dismayed: for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.
Great words and encouragement there. Thanks for your time!
Have a great weekend!
