Software Stacks Market Share within Jelastic: January 2013
Each month, we like to share stats with you, on the usage and popularity of different software stacks within Jelastic PaaS. It’s time to update you with this month’s stats. So, let’s see the stats on databases, servers and JVMs for January 2013.
Let’s start with the databases!
Below it is presented the popularity of MySQL, MariaDB, Postgres, MongoDB and CouchDB among developers on Jelastic in January 2013. As you see the leader is the same, but comparing with the previous month it has achieved even more success: a 6% increase over December.
Now, with our new partner, Websolute, we can add not only new users but another region to our stats, let’s check out the database preferences of our users with the addition of Brazil to the mix. One thing that you notice almost immediately is that PostgreSQL is more popular in Brazil than in other countries. But it’s only the first month of stats from Brazil, and those numbers can be changed pretty fast.

Below it is shown the database popularity over last year and three months, from October 2011 through January 2013.
Here’s the overall usage of application servers for February 2012, showing percentage of each of the currently available app server.
Tomcat 7 leads the competition and its margin has increased significantly: a 14% increase over December. All other application servers have lost their positions comparing with the previous month.
Looking at the stats based on region, we can see that the server preferences of Brazilian developers almost coincide with others’ “server tastes”.

Java 7 continues to grow in popularity on Jelastic. It has a 10% increase over this month.
Looking by region, we are seeing even higher penetration of Java 7 in our deployment in Brazil.
