We are back to update you with the latest trends in software stacks popularity for May 2013. This time we decided to collect the numbers in a different way to get more accurate statistics. As you remember previously we counted the number of the environments, where each software stack was used. We've changed the reporting and from now the amount of users, who deployed their apps using specific stacks is calculated. Also we've excluded all the test accounts. So, let's see how the numbers have changed!
As you see on the chart below our leader is MySQL, followed by its "sister" MariaDB. Mongo also got a good piece of pie - 11 %. Postgres isn't far away from it with 9% of a share. Last month the outsider is CouchDB: only 1% of our customers prefer this database.
Now let's see the distribution by regions!
We can conclude that in general the developers' preferences according to databases vary in different countries, but the overall leader is the same - MySQL.
Here are the current numbers.
The following chart demonstrates how the numbers have changed during the last year.
Note: We recalculated all the previous months stats using our new methodology, so the chart above shows real trends.
Java application servers
Looking at the Java application servers usage, it's easy to note that Tomcat 7 is unquestioned at number one. Tomcat 6 comes in second and GlassFish closes the top three. Jetty and TomEE have 4 % and 2% of a share respectively.
PHP application servers
If we compare the popularity of PaaS PHP servers supported in Jelastic, it's obvious and expected that Apache's piece of pie is much larger than Nginx's one.
The graph below shows PHP application server popularity by region. It's interesting to note that in Russia the gap between Apache and Nginx is the smallest.
Looks like Java 6 has no chance to catch the 7th version: 31% versus 69% of a share.
In regions the situation is pretty much the same, except Finland.
Here's the chart showing the overall usage during the last year (from May 2012 till May 2013).
Finally, here's PHP version distribution for May 2013. The newest version leads.
The same in regions: most of our PHP users have chosen the latest PHP version.
It's more interesting to see this software stack trend. The graph is quite stable.
We hope this information was interesting and useful for you. We'll continue to share with you the latest software stack trends monthly. Stay tuned to our blog to keep in touch with our news!
