What will 2013 bring? Developers place their betsDecember 27, 2012 by Martijn Verburg, Andrey Breslav and Ted Neward
2013 will be the year of Java/JVM in the cloud – lots of new PAAS/IAAS providers launched JVM/Java based offerings in 2012, but many of them were of Beta quality and too limited in functionality due to a lack of understanding as to how the JVM works well in virtualised environments. In 2013 many of the kinks will get ironed out and a rich ecosystem will start to form.

PHP In The Cloud: Jelastic PHPDecember 19, 2012 by Chad Thompson
This post is a first look at a cloud deployment of a PHP application using a recently announced service – the Jelastic PHP Cloud. Jelastic is a cloud hosting company that has to this point focused on cloud hosting for Java – and uniquely as a software provider for other hosting/datacenter providers. This gives users a choice of hosts, with seven (at this writing) separate providers across the globe that run the “Jelastic Cloud” as an option for deploying web applications. The variety of Jelastic partners allows developers to deploy applications to different data centers around the globe with a consistent deployment environment – making it easy to go ‘global’ with applications and services.

In Europe, Putting the Adventure Into Venture CapitalNovember 8, 2012 by Matthew Campbell and Chris V. Nicholson
The life of a European venture capitalist is usually pretty civilized, punctuated by trips to the converted warehouses of London’s trendy Silicon Roundabout neighborhood or Berlin’s stately Prenzlauer Berg district, where entrepreneurs swap ideas in Vietnamese restaurants and faux-dive coffee shops. Dmitry Chikhachev of Moscow-based Runa Capital lives a less posh existence. Visiting cloud-computing software provider Jelastic, one of his investments, means a flight to Kiev, Ukraine’s dusty capital, followed by a 100-mile drive on post-Soviet roads to the provincial town of Zhytomyr – a city best known for its museum of Cosmonaut memorabilia. There, Chikhachev subsists on Ukrainian staples like potato dumplings and cabbage rolls as he helps Jelastic, founded in 2010 by a Russian-Ukrainian programmer duo, expand its business.
European Investors Put Adventure Back in Venture CapitalNovember 8, 2012 by Matthew Campbell and Chris V. Nicholson
Not so for Dmitry Chikhachev of Moscow-based Runa Capital, who lives a less posh existence. Visiting cloud-computing software provider Jelastic, one of his investments, means a flight to Kiev, Ukraine’s dusty capital, followed by a 100-mile drive on post-Soviet roads to the provincial town of Zhytomyr – a city perhaps best known for its museum of Cosmonaut memorabilia. There, Chikhachev subsists on Ukrainian staples like potato dumplings and cabbage rolls as he helps Jelastic Inc., founded in 2010 by a Russian-Ukrainian programmer duo, expand its business. “There are hundreds of hidden gems far from big cities,” says Chikhachev. “The regional market of startups is only starting to be tapped.”
Deploying Java Web Application on JelasticOctober 9, 2012 by Tomasz Dziurko
To test how this deployment process look like, I’ve decided to put my Wicket tutorial web application online. It consist of three pages and two tables in database so I think it shouldn’t be a too complicated process to deploy it online. And as a Java hosting service I’ve chosen Jelastic, recent winner of 2012 Duke’s Choice Awards announced during JavaOne conference this year. Duke’s Choice Award is something like a Oscar in the Java world, so I thought that Jelastic might be a good choice to start with.
Hadoop, Jelastic, NATO, and More Take Honors at 2012 Duke’s Choice AwardsOctober 1, 2012 by Eric Gregory
At JavaOne in San Francisco, Oracle announced the winners of the Duke’s Choice Awards. For those not familiar with the awards, they’re pretty much the Java Oscars, recognizing “extreme innovation in the world of Java technology.” The awards honor an incredibly diverse range of efforts, with previous awardees including robotics companies, Motorola phones, and the MLB’s fantasy baseball draft application and scoreboard. “This year’s Duke’s Choice Awards winners are spear-heading a truly diverse and creative set of Java-based projects, and their efforts are invaluable to the Java community,” said Peter Utzschneider, vice president product management, Oracle.
“The Father of Java” uses JelasticSeptember 7, 2012 by Hebert Coelho De Oliveira

Running elasticsearch with Tomcat on JelasticMay 30, 2012 by Luca Cavanna
In this post I’m gonna write about elasticsearch and a way to deploy it within a Java servlet container as a war file. Since I’m playing around with Jelastic, why not try to deploy it to the cloud? Once again, I haven’t done anything distributed in Jelastic, I only deployed a single elasticsearch node. As far as I know the multicast discovery doesn’t work on Jelastic, like in all cloud platforms, but I haven’t tried yet running more than one instance together.
Running Solr with Jetty on JelasticMay 29, 2012 by Luca Cavanna
It’s been a while since I don’t blog, about eight months have gone really fast in Amsterdam! Meanwhile I wrote a few articles on SearchWorkings.org, the community site for search professionals. In fact, as you may have noticed from my tweets I’m getting more and more involved in enterprise search and open source projects. In this post I’m gonna write about Jelastic, the next generation of Java hosting platforms.

Say Hello to JelasticMarch 5, 2012 by Shekhar Gulati
These days Platform as a Service (PaaS) is one of my interest areas and I like to play with different PaaS providers to see how easy or difficult it is to develop and deploy application on them. The best thing about most of the current new generation PaaS systems is that they don’t require you to change your code or learn new programming paradigm. Google App Engine is thing of past and is losing ground in PaaS race. For last six months I have spend some of my spare time on OpenShift and Cloud Foundry and one thing I can say is that I love both of the platforms. Today I decided to spend some time on Jelastic — seeing how easy or difficult is to deploy a simple Spring MongoDB application on it.

Cloud Hoster Jelastic Adds HA for Java AppsJanuary 20, 2012 by John K. Waters
For Java developers working on the nascent Jelastic Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), it now requires just a mouse click to activate new automated high availability (HA) features for their applications, the company announced. With that click, the Jelastic platform clusters each app server with another app server running on a separate virtual machine (VM), and replicates the sessions between them, explained the company’s founder and CEO Ruslan Synytsky.

New in Jelastic PaaS: session replication and sticky sessionsDecember 15, 2011 by Ruslan Synytsky
Here are some details on how the high availability features that we added few days ago work. This boils down to properly setting up session replication between Tomcat, GlassFish and Jetty web servers in Jelastic and configuring load balancer redirecting requests to them. Session replication then keeps copying session data between server instances thus providing high reliability, scalability, and perfect failover capabilities.
Grails + Bootstrap + Amazon + Jelastic = djacc.comDecember 13, 2011 by Abdullah Cetin CAVDAR
Amazon’s dedicated servers are a little bit expensive for me, at least for now. I used Amazon Micro Instances for testing purposes. They are working well for small projects like mine. However, for the production, I needed a high performance machine and I found Jelastic (thanks Emrah). It’s really fantastic. It has an intuitive web front end, high performance machines, real time scaling and best of all it’s free for beta testing period. I put a load balancer front, 4 Tomcat7 application servers behind it and lastly I added my MySQL DB at the end of the stack. Perfect config for now.
Evolution of Java PaaS toward standards and developer controlDecember 8, 2011 by Ruslan Synytsky
You’ve created the next amazing blockbuster Java application and now need to find a server to run it, looking for a service which would be cost-effective, elastic, compatible with your application and tools, and not trying to lock you in.
Build in the Cloud: Jelastic + MavenDecember 1, 2011 by Alex Tkachman
Good news for Java developers! Now you can build applications in Jelastic cloud instead of building them locally and uploading WAR archives. What are my benefits you may ask? First of all, it is faster and takes less traffic and here is why: package files can be quite large and need reupload every time your application changes Jelastic can take only the code changes from version control repository and rebuild your application in the cloud. Second, you get the efficiency of the cloud and can use your computer without any extra load.
Jelastic Puts Java Apps In The CloudNovember 21, 2011 by Adrian Bridgwater
Jelastic has ramped up its Java server hosting platform for developers with a newly refined Platform‑as‑a‑Service (PaaS) function. MySQL Leads Open Source Market ShareOctober 21, 2011 by ReadWriteWeb
Jelastic.com, the Java PaaS similar to Heroku, has compiled an interesting market share analysis of their more than 1,000 developers. Since their service is built on standard application servers and databases, their developers can choose which of four major open source databases they want to use: MySQL, Postgres, MariaDB and MongoDB. Granted, this is just one company’s view of things, but given that the numbers are still interesting, and there are some differences between the choices by North American and European developers.
